Brad Gray
NAHS Boys Basketball

Brad Gray joins the coaching staff at New Albany High School for the 2008-09 school year as Head Boys’ Basketball Coach. Coach Gray comes to New Albany from Lewisburg High School in Olive Branch where he has been Head Basketball Coach for two seasons. Prior to that, he was head coach for both basketball and baseball at Hickory Flat High School.

A Senatobia native, Gray is a graduate of the University of Mississippi. He holds a B.A. in Secondary Education, with an emphasis on Social Studies. He also attended Northwest Community College where he was a member of the baseball team.

Gray is looking forward to leading the New Albany boys’ basketball program. “New Albany has always had a great reputation for basketball. I am excited to be a part of this program and look forward to good hings,” he said.

Mike Hearn
Athletic Director/Head Boys & Girls Basketball Coach, Middle School

Coach Mike Hearn is a graduate of Hickory Flat High School, University of Memphis, and University of Mississippi. Coach Hearn has more than thirty years of experience teaching and coaching. He has been in the New Albany School District since 2000. Coach Hearn is married to Cindy and he has two daughters Stacy and Anna.

John Stroud
NAHS Girls Basketball

Coach Stroud has coached the New Albany High School girls’ team since 2005. A graduate of the University of Mississippi, John Stroud was an Ole Miss and SEC standout and still holds several school and SEC records. He played for the NBA Houston Rockets from 1980-82, and then played a year of professional basketball in Spain. In 1983-84 he was an assistant basketball coach at the University of Alabama. From 1985-1989, Coach Stroud was head coach of the W.P. Daniel High School (former name of New Albany High School) boys’ team: winning back to back state championships in 1986 and 1987.

Stroud left New Albany to become Head Coach at East Mississippi Community College from 1988-1990. In 1990, he became the Head Basketball Coach and Assistant Athletic Director at Milsaps College in Jackson, MS until 2003.

Coach Stroud owns the Stroud Insurance agency in New Albany. He and his wife Billye Jean have two daughters, Caroline and Anna Francis, who are students in the New Albany Schools.


Don Reed
Assistant Boys/Girls Coach, Middle School Basketball

Coach Reed has previous experience in coaching basketball, baseball, softball, and golf at Hickory Flat High School. He served as New Albany's assistant Boy's Basketball coach under Tony Elliott from 2002-2005.

Coach Reed is a graduate of Hickory Flat High School and has degrees from Northwest Community College (where he was member of the Ranger Basketball team) as well as Ole Miss with a Bachelors degree in Recreation Administration.

He is married to the former Melissa Elliott from New Site. They have 3 sons, Tyler 16, Trey 10 and Eli 3


Alicia Pickens
Assistant Coach, Girls High School Basketball

Alicia Pickens (Coach P.) is a graduate of Pine Grove High School and a 2006 graduate of Blue Mountain College where she majored in Secondary English Education and Social Science. She has been the assistant basketball coach for the New Albany Bulldogs for four years. She is in her third year of teaching at New Albany Middle School where she is the instructor for ICT I. She is married to Jeran Pickens of Blue Springs and they are expecting their first child, a daughter, in November.

Scotty Shettles
Assistant Boys Basketball

Scotty graduated from West Union High School in 1989. He attended NEMCC where he played basketball under Coach Harvey Childers. Scotty received his associate’s degree in physical education, and then graduated from Faulkner University with his Bachelors of Business Administration degree.

Scotty is married to Marla Shettles, the Director of Inpatient Rehabilitation Services, Hyperbarics, & Sports Medicine at Magnolia Regional Health Center. They have two sons, Mitchell and Braden.

Scotty teaches health education and safety and drug education at NAHS.
